PRO X Elite - Whey Protein with the X factor.What is it?
Pro X Elite is 30g of whey protein powder with 5g of added glutamine (an important amino acid) which we believe to be important for muscle recovery and enhancing muscle building. Although whey protein powders are good sources of amino acids (including the essential amino acids), they can be relatively low in glutamine, and because glutamine is such an important amino acid for various reasons (see below), we have added an extra 5g of glutamine per serving.
Who is it for?Pro X Elite is for any athlete who either wishes to prevent muscle breakdown and/or who wishes to promote recovery of muscle and ‘bulk up’. With the appropriate training, we believe that Pro X Elite will lead to an increase in muscle mass (not fat!!). Even if you do not want to increase muscle size but merely wish to maintain what you have, then Pro X Elite will help.
Pro X Elite can be taken by male and female athletes of any age nd level of training as long as they wish to be in good shape or who wish to increase their muscle size. Consequently it is suitable for gym work outs, endurance training, sprint and power training, and weight training.
When to take it?Our advice is to take it either as a full dose, one hour before training and then a second dose within 30-60 minutes after training IF the need is to bulk up. If the need is to maintain muscle mass then we advise splitting one dose into two portions and take half before and the other half just after training. If on the other hand you merely wish to increase your daily protein intake but have a busy lifestyle, then taking either a full dose or a half dose mid-morning or mid-afternoon as a nutritious snack is advisable. Alternately, you could add the powder to yoghurt, milk and fruit of choice, mix in a blender and so make a delicious smoothie.
Why?There is now substantial evidence that athletes need more protein than sedentary individuals. Not only is this higher intake of protein important but studies have clearly demonstrated that the timing and type of protein intake is also crucial.
Endurance exercise increases use of amino acids for energy, and this can result in the unwanted state of increased muscle protein breakdown. Resistance exercise does not really increase use of amino acid as energy BUT does need amino acids to promote muscle protein recovery after training. Weight training itself promotes protein synthesis but without correct nutrition this synthesis is slow to take shape and the effects of the training session are not maximised. So to influence muscle protein gains or merely to recover properly, protein (amino acids) MUST be provided as soon as possible after exercise. Studies have shown that protein synthesis is very slow when feeding is delayed 3 hours, and also that protein supplementation before exercise may be important in promoting muscle growth. We would recommend that 20-30g of Whey protein is consumed approximately 1 hour pre training and again within 30 minutes post training.
Pro X elite has an additional 5g of Glutamine. Why? Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body. Although it is a non essential amino acid (the body can make its own) glutamine is classed as being conditionally essential, and at times of stress you need to consume it in the diet. It is fundamental for protein synthesis. Studies in extreme settings, such as recovery from operations in hospitals, have shown that giving glutamine at times of stress is essential and actually increases survival rates in intensive care. Now, no one is saying that exercise is comparable to intensive care but the stresses that elite exercise puts on the body may require increased intake of this conditionally essential amino acid. Despite whey protein having an excellent amino acid profile with huge quantities of the branched chain amino acids, whey protein is relatively low in glutamine.

Instructions for use.Take 1 serving of Pro X Elite 1 hour prior to exercise and a second serving within 30 minutes of finishing exercise. On rest days take one serving of pro X elite with breakfast.

There is now substantial evidence that endurance and power based athletes require a greater intake of protein than sedentary individuals. Elite athletes typical consume 1.8-2.5g/kg body weight per day of protein (162-225g per day for a 90kg athlete). Not only is this high intake of protein important but studies have clearly demonstrated that the timing and type of protein intake is also crucial. Endurance exercise increases amino acid oxidation rates, especially the branched chain amino acid leucine . This can result in the unwanted state of increased whole body protein breakdown . Resistance exercise is unlikely to increase leucine metabolism during exercise however during the recovery from resistance exercise muscle protein breakdown rates are significantly elevated . The exercise itself does promote protein synthesis but without correct nutrition this balance between synthesis and degradation can favour degradation negating the effects of the training session. Therefore, in order to convert this anabolic influence into muscle protein gains amino acids MUST be provided as soon as possible post-exercise, either in the form of a meal or consuming a high quality protein supplement . As well as post exercise protein supplementation, pre exercise intake may also be important in promoting muscle growth . It is therefore recommended that 20-30g of Whey protein (a fast releasing protein) is consumed approximately 1 hour pre training and again consumed within 30 minutes post training.
