Here are the people behind Nutrition X's cutting edge Elite Range sports nutrition. Their profiles speak for themselves and as you can see they have worked with some of the biggest sports clubs in the world!
Professor Don MacLaren,
Cert.Ed., BSc., MSc., PhD
Don is a professor of sports nutrition, which is a testimony to his many publications on the subject in journals and books as well as his presentations at scientific and coaching conferences.
He has been research active since 1980 in the fields of carbohydrate and fat metabolism, nutritional ergogenic aids, and applied aspects of sports nutrition.
He was a member of the working party on sports nutrition accreditation; a joint initiative between BASES, Nutrition Society, the BOA, and dietitians.
He was secretary of the ‘physiology section’ of BASES and is an accredited physiologist with the British Olympic Association. In addition, due to the contribution of his work he has been made a Fellow of both BASES (FBASES) and the European College of Sports Science (FECSS).
Don has been nutritional consultant with Bolton Wanderers F.C., Derby County F.C., Colchester United F.C., Hull F.C., Liverpool F.C., Manchester City F.C., and Sale Sharks R.U.F.C. Currently he is with Everton F.C. and Northampton Saints R.U.F.C.
Don has undertaken significant contracted research with such companies as Novartis, Mars, GSK, Red Bull, SIS, and Penta. His lecturing duties have resulted in many successful PhD, MSc and BSc students ‘passing through his hands’.
Dr Graeme L. Close,
BSc (Hons), ASCC, PhD
Graeme is a senior lecturer in exercise metabolism and sports nutrition.
He completed his PhD in sports nutrition in 2003 and since then has published many papers and book chapters on various aspects of sports nutrition specialises in antioxidants and dietary mechanisms to enhance recovery following exercise.
Graeme is accredited with BASES (physiologist) and the UKSCA and is currently the nutrition editor for “Professional Strength and Conditioning” the official journal of the UKSCA. Graeme has worked as a nutrition and Strength & Conditioning consultant with various sports teams including GB Rowing, Leigh RLFC and Widnes RLFC and is currently head of sports nutrition at Munster RUFC as well as providing nutrition support to St Helens RLFC and various elite athletes.
Graeme regularly advises governing bodies on sports nutrition for example he has given seminars to UK sport on antioxidants and athletic performance.
Graeme has performed substantial commissioned research for various companies including Astra Zeneca, GSK and Sirtris investigating nutritional/pharmacological strategies to combat muscle damage.
He is a former professional rugby league player in the UK having played first team rugby for Warrington Wolves, Workington Town and Leigh Centurions representing his country at junior and student level.
